Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the second phase of Chennai’s electric bus programme, paving the way for 750 new low-floor AC electric buses across the city on Tuesday, August 25. As part of the initial rollout, 130 AC electric buses will begin operations from the Alandur depot, while the CM also flagged off five electric buses from the Secretariat.
The second phase follows the introduction of 625 electric buses under the first phase, taking the planned electric fleet across both phases to 1,375 buses once all vehicles become operational.
